The Pollution In China Is Getting So Bad That Cities Are Turning Pink…Literally

It’s no secret that China has a big pollution problem. However, far from getting better, all signs point to the fact that China’s pollution problem is actually getting worse. And it’s not just major cities like Shanghai and Beijing that are bearing the brunt of this pollution crisis.

Every major city in China is having air-quality problems. One of the worst is Nanjing. The other day, residents there suddenly found that the air around them had turned pink. Needless to say, they weren’t too thrilled about it.

The bizarre event happened out of nowhere late in the evening on December 30, 2015.

Officials rushed to figure out what was going on. They found that their city’s air quality had suddenly jumped beyond the already terrible levels being experienced by residents in Beijing.

While the pink color might have been shocking, it was actually just an effect of the sun setting over a very polluted Nanjing.

But not all researchers are convinced by that explanation. Some believe that the pink color may have been caused by a new type of smog particle. Obviously, more testing will be required to confirm that hypothesis.

That is a combination of something horrifying and something strangely beautiful. Still, I wouldn’t want to spend any sizable amount of time in China anytime soon…at least not until they get this pollution situation under control.
