If you don’t know the difference between free-range eggs and cage-free eggs, you’re not alone. Most people don’t (and assume that, generally, free-range eggs are just more expensive). Here’s a breakdown (thanks to the Wall Street Journal):
Caged: Chickens are forced into small cages. They cannot move and are treated as machines.
Cage-free: The chickens are uncaged and able to freely roam a barn or other facility, but they generally don’t have access to the outdoors.
Free-range: Indicates the hens are cage-free and have some access to the outdoors.
Just because chickens aren’t forced into cages doesn’t mean they are living a good life. But truly free-range chickens? Just see for yourself.
These chickens are free-range, healthy, and happy. (Isn’t it just how it should look?)
Here’s what it looks like when the chickens we eat are caged… (Warning: The following video contains graphic content.)
The difference is stark and disturbing.
Try to buy free-range eggs (or at least cage-free eggs) at the grocery store. Not only will you eat healthier eggs, but you’ll vote with your wallet to end this terrible type of animal suffering.
