On a Los Feliz hilltop in Los Angeles sits a mansion where it’s always Christmas. That’s not to say that it’s filled with yuletide cheer, however. On December of 1959, a brutal double murder occurred on the property. For over 50 years, the home has been left untouched.
The decorations are still up, awaiting the advent of a Christmas that never came.
On December 6, 1959, Dr. Harold Perelson beat his wife to death with a hammer, badly injured his 18-year-old daughter, and then ended his own life by drinking a glass of acid.
Despite being in the hands of several owners since then, the house hasn’t been lived in since that fateful night.
In fact, the house is still decorated for a 1959 Christmas, complete with wrapping paper and tinsel.
A year after the tragedy, a couple named Emily and Julian Enriquez bought the whole 5,050-square-foot property, but they only used it as a storage space. They never spent a single night there.
Their son Rudy inherited the house in 1994. He too refuses to reside there, but has recently given the place to his cats, which roam there freely.
Neighbors believe that the mansion is haunted. Figures can sometimes be seen at the windows, and the TV has been known to turn on and off.
People who try to sneak onto the property are met with the strange sounds of heavy knocking. Could this be the sound of Perelson’s hammer?
The motive behind that man’s heinous actions remains a mystery. Could it be that the Enirquez family knows exactly what happened, and that’s why they refuse to live there, despite purchasing it for a hefty sum? We may never truly know.
