It’s nearly the end of January, and the East Coast is only now receiving the winter weather it deserves, but let’s not forget that in the Midwest, it is fittingly frigid outside right now.
How cold, you ask? So cold that frozen pants can stand up by themselves! Minneapolis native Tom Grotting‘s neighbor was feeling the winter blues, so he took it upon himself to cheer her up by raising frozen pants into a standing position by themselves. The result is a fun (and sort of creepy) illusion that makes it look like invisible men are shivering in Minnesota wearing nothing but their blue jeans.
Tom’s neighbor Diane understandably gets a little bummed out during the tundra months of a Minnesota winter. So to cheer her up (I think), he erected frozen jeans all over his yard.
The jeans were first soaked in water and manipulated into looking like they had legs inside. That’s where the freezing temperatures came into play.
“The fellas,” as Tom adorably calls them, love to take trips around the city of Minneapolis.
They’ve become so popular that people in the neighborhood are now creating their own “fellas.”
When I moved out of Iowa after I graduated from college, I vowed never to experience a midwestern winter again. But as Tom proves, the best way to get through it is to have a little sense of humor in the face of all that frost. For more pictures, check out Tom’s Instagram.
